Toward Track@Way 2.0 BETA/RC

Well, i have good news to report.

All the www.gobredcrumbs.com stuff is now greatly improved and works better than expected... i hit quite a few issues with Qt stack, specially in handling QNetworkAccessMonitor from a QThread, but now it's solved.

Graphs and track overview works quite good...

Configuration dialogs have been rewritten and sorted... now they looks pretty man!

So, a couple of more things and next week i will be releasing... Track@Way 2.0 BETA/RC!

After this release, the only changes will be bugfixes and improvements to the help pages (which are still vastly lacking at the moment!)...

So, stay tuned....

ps: BETA will be released for Symbian, Harmattan (N9/N950) and Maemo (N900). Hopefully also a tentative build for Android, but i am quite skeptical at the moment.

More on Alpha2...

Hey all!
good news. Lots of things got into Alpha2! Basially, most of all your suggestions so far.

What will be missing from Alpha 2 is:
- navigation
- on-line tiles manager

So stay tuned...

giovedì 17 maggio 2012

Status of Alpha2

Most of the things for Alpha2 are there. I am fine touching the now raster maploading code, which is a bit slower but let you load _ANY_ common raster format (jpg, png, tif, gif, svg, mng, xpm, etc etc).

Stay tuned, something moremight end up in Alpha2.

lunedì 14 maggio 2012

I have good news.

At the moment Alpha2 is progressing well.

- GoBreadcrumbs now works again
- Track statistics and graphic is back (albeit not definitive yet)
- Couple of serious bugs (and memory leaks) fixed
- landscape layout now works much better
- Cartographic Table layout has been improved
- Much more!

So stay tuned...

giovedì 10 maggio 2012

Toward alpha2

Progress is coming along.
After fixing the known bugs, i did quite some small improvements all around, a bit difficult to detail. Let'sjust say from cosmetics to usage improvements. I am trying to follow up on all your inputs.

I have also fixed a bug which prevented proper caslibration from map files, now it works again.

Also, i am reimplementing tracks statistics and graphics, it's coming along pretty nice.
Things still to do before alpha2:
- Improve online maps (add more sources & make interface more usable)
- add text summary statistics (at the moment, only graphics)

Then if i have time i also want to fully rewrite the map import code to use internal Qt libs and thus dropping the limit of JPG/PNG only maps!

venerdì 4 maggio 2012

Well, the memory leak has been found and fixed. It's QPainter::drawPolygon! I am now using a for loop with QPainter:drawLine instead. I am baffled, once more.

I am now fixing gobreadcrumbs, then the internet confirmation, then whatmore... A lot to do and very little time to do it! Anyway, by the end of may Alpha 2 will be out. The official 2.0 will not be out before summer, i fear, but at least nto much more than help will be missing i hope!

giovedì 3 maggio 2012

Working on ALPHA 2

Sorry all,
i have been pretty busy, but thanks to last vacation i finally managed to get an extensive testing out of ALPHA1. I found out a memory leak (still unresolved) and some usability improvements i want to add.

So stay tuned, before june at least al ALPHA2, if not a BETA1, will be released!

giovedì 29 marzo 2012

Released Track@Way 2.0 ALPHA 1!

Hi all!
please check the release notes  HERE!

Downloads are available for Symbian and for Nokia N9 / N950.

This is a TESTING release, but it works pretty well already!

Please report any bugs here and use the forums for discussing this release!

mercoledì 28 marzo 2012

Track@Way 2.0 will be here by friday!

Ok, i will definitely try to push the ALPHA release this week.
All the main issues i found are resolved now, so it's almost time.

I will spend the time i have until friday to package also an ALPHA release for Nokia N9, as per some user requests!

venerdì 23 marzo 2012

Good news on 2.0 prealpha...

It will be called Track@Way 1.9.1 and i hope to release it by next week!

Today i am fixing most of the things and i will test it over the weekend, i want to deliver something that, even if still alpha, can be used by you all!

Stay tuned...

lunedì 19 marzo 2012

Preparing a 2.0 pre-alpha release...

Some tests over the weekend of the upcoming 2.0 (codenamed 1.9.0) shows some unstability but a great new usability.

I have to fix some quirks before a pre-alpha release can get out, so stay tuned for next week! Supporters will have it first, then a general free release will be available later on.

I can tell you that the pre-alpha will have:
- support for OpenStreetMap online maps
- support for tracks database
- livetrack which will never lose a single point
- faster than ever screen redraw

and much more!

giovedì 15 marzo 2012

Toward 2.0...

I am happy to announce that now not only the maps but also the tracks are almost complete.

I still need to finish the waypoint management code (Editor & caching) and of course LiveTrack is still quite a mess, but it won't take too long now to have something at least usable for some initial tests!

I have also added a pretty "track overview" which let's you see your track on top of the local maps!

mercoledì 14 marzo 2012

What's the status?

Well, the maps part is good, and i am having also some feedback (more users interested in testing? please contact me!).

The new tracks code is also going well. I have implemented the track and legs editor, but i found out the approach i used so far it's not feasible, so i need to find a new approach.

So you have to be a bit more patient until the first alpha is released!

mercoledì 7 marzo 2012

Track@Way 1.2.7 released today!

Finally i am happy to release  1.2.7 today.
Changes:
- Fixed black boxes on high level zooms on maps

- Added full spanish translation

- Some more fixes and memory tuning.

Please upgrade and enjoy!

venerdì 2 marzo 2012

Track@Way 2.0 progress...

Hi all!
Good news! I have finished rewriting the core of the new TracksManager. Now you have a cool database where you can store all your tracks! You can enable/disable them and see all the waypoints toghether too.

At the moment it works albeit the track's editor is not implemented yet.

And, of course, the LiveTrack is still missing...

Once LiveTrack is back, i will release a first ALPHA for the supporters to test...

Stay tuned!

mercoledì 29 febbraio 2012

Track@Way 1.2.7 almost ready...

just waiting for russian translation.

- Fixed black squares on maps
- Fixed UTM display
- Updated Spanigh translation

martedì 28 febbraio 2012

Track@Way 1.2.7 and 2.0

I will probably be releasing Track@Way 1.2.7 sometime next week with updated spanish translation and some map fixes.

At the same time, most of my time goes on 2.0 which is growing very well, albeit so much more complex :)

venerdì 24 febbraio 2012

Updates...

It's time i give you some updates, which are good.

Track@Way 2.0 is coming up quite nice. At the moment, all the map stuff (raster maps and remote OpenStreetMaps) are working properly.

At the moment i am working at rewriting the entire tracks / livetrack stuff. It's coming up nicely but it will require somemore time to be ready.

You will be able to import tracks from GPX files and from gobreadcrumbs (plus any other formats and sources, as the new code allows it with not toomuch effort)... Also, LiveTrack will be more integrated with tracks.

You will be able to edit waypoints, and to export stored tracks in GPX (and other formats, in the future too).

Expect a first BETA by the end of march. Some alpha's before that too, i guess :)

venerdì 17 febbraio 2012

Good news in sight...

Well, finally i managed to get also the raster maps to works fairly well.
Still, there are some issues and problems, specially with blocks of the map which disappers, but there are no more "issues" which prevents Track@Way 2.0 to happen sometime not too far.

I need to "fix" some raster maps issues, then implement the new tracks drawing (which will be way faster than before, and much more responsive for huge tracks), then the first "alpha" will be released! I don't know if i will make it before the end of february, but i am trying hard to match the date!

So stay tuned :)

lunedì 13 febbraio 2012

Yesterday i have finally released Track@Way 1.2.6 for Symbian... It includes fixes for the UTM visualization bug.

Not much to say, except that i should probably release a 1.2.7 soon fixing (again!) the borked maps on some situations...

Work on 2.0 is proceeding, but due to high work commitments at a slower pace for a few days...

mercoledì 8 febbraio 2012

Status update...

Work on Track@Way 2.0 is progressing at a good pace.
I am heavily rewriting a lot of code, so this is taking a bit longer than expected. But, in return, expect a lot of improvements.

At the moment, the OpenStreetMap downloading and displaying works great, and the new table ptojrction is also working great. At the moment i am reordering and fixing the calibration import code, adding more formats, and the raster maps display...

giovedì 2 febbraio 2012

Hard working...

Hi all!
i have good news for you. Work on 2.0 is proceeding. I have rewritten completely the TrackingTable... Now proper map projection is supported!
The TrackingTable will show everything projected using the Google Map projection, which is a mercator-like projection. I chose this because most of us is used to Google Maps, so most of the people will feel ok with Track@Way too.

I have also the remote map fetcher code working... You can now see maps from Open Street Map (using open Map Quest tiles)!

Next is to work on adapting local raster maps to the new projection, rewrite the tracks manager to creare a database of tracks like the storage of maps, and then some kind of first alpha release of 2.0 will be available. I expect this to happen no sooner than the end of february.... but who knows?

venerdì 27 gennaio 2012

Work is progressing...

now i managed successfully to locate and download tiles from open mapquest (based on OSM data). And i discovered that it's time to digg deeper on projections and switch Track@Way to the mercator projection (the same used by online mapping sources).

The other way would be to draw tiles myself and start from OSM raw data, but i dont like this approach for a few reasons:
- difficult to store/merge/draw data in realtime (it's XML for mysake!)
- will not be compatible with google maps, bing or other closed source data providers

So, this is the overall idea now is to switch to a real projection (mercator) on the tracking table. Still i have to understand what this means in terms of coding and what should i do with maps which are not in mercator... how to i "change" them?

martedì 24 gennaio 2012

New MapsManager!

I have updated the MapsManager. It has a nice new layout which make it easier to use.
As a bonus, the map loading now is done asyncronously so you can keep using Track@Way while you load your maps!

Supporters will receive an update sometime between next week or so... But it's to be considered beta!

lunedì 23 gennaio 2012

News...

While i am waiting a little bit more testing on 1.2.6 before releasing...

i started development of the future 2.0 release! At the moment, i am rewriting the maps manager.
The aim is to make it more intuitive and easy to use and add "remote" (= internet based, like OSM) maps!

Stay tuned..

mercoledì 18 gennaio 2012

Finally a proper release for N9...

Ok, 1.2.6 will see finally a fixed and working Nokia N9 (Harmattan) release! Thanks to a nice N9 user who is testing at the moment...

Android release is lagging a bit, due to some annoying issues in debugging... but i hope to fix it soon!

martedì 17 gennaio 2012

Track@Way 1.2.6 on the way...

This release should bring a few fixes:
- UTM display fixed
- Improved keyboard management on N9
- Reworked file dialog for a better access (moved some controls to top)
- Reworked items on Tracking Table: now using a layout for proper placement
- New Android build, to make use of latest and better Necessitas... (still not published on Android Market)

A few more days will be required, first i need feedback from N9 users, then i still need to finalize the Android build...

domenica 15 gennaio 2012

Good new 2012...

Hi all!
after an extensive testing during Christmas vacations.... i am back albeit slowly on the ball.
First of all, i found no bugs so far over 1.2.5, so this is good.
A user has reported a bug in UTM display, which i am going to fix for 1.2.6 toghether with a fix for N9...
